  • What all is custom?
Richard Medel wrote on Friday, October 25, 2019 (PDT):
  • The subtle differences from original are--- 1-The lights are mounted lower and are chromed and are not the originals. 2- The paint is 2-tone and not quite the original green 3- The grill along with other parts are chrome plated. 4- Fenders and sills are omitted.

  • So not really a custom. More like a couple personal touches and wrong color ok
Dennis wrote on Friday, November 08, 2019 (PST):
  • Did you smooth all the castings? All the cast parts look real smooth.
Richard Medel wrote on Saturday, November 09, 2019 (PST):
  • I did a lot of grinding then coated it 3 times with epoxy primer with a lot of sanding in between. The complete chassis and engine were done this way .
Ray wrote on Sunday, November 10, 2019 (PST):
  • Ive always been told that smoothing out castings weakens the integrity of the metal. So in my humble oppion would a smooth finish be worth compromising the structure of the tractor? I dont think so

  • I say it sounds like Ray knows his stuff
Richard Medel wrote on Sunday, November 10, 2019 (PST):
  • Well I'm not a metallurgist but I've done several tractors like this and they are still in one piece with no stress cracks. They do make a nice show piece though and that's what they were restored for.
Ray wrote on Monday, November 11, 2019 (PST):
  • To each their own i guess. Id be nervous to not have the fenders on tho, they're on there for a reason and losing a leg isnt worth it
Arnie wrote on Monday, November 11, 2019 (PST):
  • It's a very sharp tractor and whilst i dont agree with the whole weakend castings gosh why did you take the fenders off? That'd be like taking the saftey belts out of a car

  • Richard, It seems some folks just gotta complain! I think you did a fantastic job turning a tractor into a functional work of art. As far as weakening the belly casting by smoothing the surface, I think you can rest assured that that over-engineered piece of cast iron could have perhaps 20% of its mass whittled away and it would still be more than capable of doing its job! No Fenders? No problem! Keep your hands on the wheel, your feet on the platform and your mind on the job. Fenders are nice and add an extra layer of safety for the operator, but there were thousands of tractors built without them before folks became convinced that they had to have them.....

  • With all due respect dale, people smoked cigarettes back then too and they sure aren't safe, so in your oppion would you say since lots of people did then its still ok now? -Chad
Arnie wrote on Monday, November 11, 2019 (PST):
  • Chads got a point
Richard Medel wrote on Monday, November 11, 2019 (PST):
  • Hey guys and gals, I sure didn't expect all this controversy over my tractor . I actually feel flattered . Thanks Dale for your positive comments. By the way ,I am in the process of restoring a Cockshutt 70 in the same manner. I will post another picture on this site where you will see that it says "custom " under the OLIVER 70 Decal
Brad wrote on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 (PST):
  • Looked at your other pic that looks dangerous as could be with spoked wheels and no fenders.....that tractor needs fenders plain and simple
Lori n chad wrote on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 (PST):
  • Uh kim i don't feel this picture is suitable for this site could you remove it? Please and thank you, Lori
Brad wrote on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 (PST):
  • Lori you get to carried away with the feminist crap
Gary tyler wrote on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 (PST):
  • Guys , Lori must be a hard core Democrat as much as she complains and is feminist towards things she's always wanting stuff deleted I've noticed. But this Oliver 70 is a beautiful tractor I love the way you have done it.
